About Our Boarding Up Company in Bracknell

Boarding Up Bracknell is an independent boarding up company that makes damaged and vulnerable property safe across Bracknell and nearby. That means broken windows, forced doors, damaged shopfronts, holed roofs and skylights, and empty properties that need closing up properly. We’ve been doing this work for over 10 years. We’re fully insured, and we’re DBS-checked.

This page explains how we work, so you know what to expect before you call.

An independent local boarding up service

Boarding Up Bracknell is the only name you’ll deal with, from the first call to the final paperwork. We’re a local boarding up service, and our work is practical. We close an opening securely, leave the site tidy and safe, and give you what you need for the next step.

Bracknell has a real mix of buildings. There are pockets of Victorian housing, New Town estates of different ages, and office developments. Around Braccan Walk you’ll find shopfronts, and Market Street mixes flats, offices and retail. Each type of building brings different openings and different frames. A Victorian sash, a 1960s estate window, a commercial door and a large shop pane don’t all take boarding the same way. Knowing that difference is a big part of the job.

A person answers the phone, day or night

A person answers our phone 24 hours a day. We attend at any hour, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

We don’t print an arrival time on this website. The honest answer depends on where you are, so we work it out on the call from your postcode and tell you then. You’ll know what to expect before you put the phone down.

A clear quote before any work starts

You get a free, clear quote on the call, and no work starts until you’ve agreed it. The things that shape the price are:

  • The number and size of openings. One small pane and a run of ground-floor windows are very different jobs.
  • Height and access. Upper floors, roofs, skylights and work that needs ladders all take more time and care.
  • Materials and board thickness. These depend on the opening and how exposed it is.
  • Fixing method. Security or anti-tamper fixings may suit some openings, such as a ground-floor window on an empty property.
  • A damaged door or frame. If the door or frame needs securing first, that adds to the work.
  • Debris and glass. Broken glass or debris may need making safe before boarding.

Our boarding up pricing guide explains each of these in more detail.

What happens when we arrive

The van carries boarding stock and fixings, so most jobs can be dealt with on the visit once you’ve agreed the quote. For most openings we use exterior-grade plywood, typically 18mm. OSB can suit smaller openings. Where the frame allows, we fix in a way that limits further damage to it, which helps whoever fits the permanent repair later. Security or anti-tamper fixings are there when the situation calls for them.

Not every frame is in a fit state to fix to. A door frame split by forced entry, or a window frame pulled loose, can’t always hold boarding the usual way. In that case we stop and explain the options first, so you’re deciding with the full picture and not finding out afterwards.

Boarding is the make-safe stage. It keeps the weather out and the property secure while the permanent glazing or door repair is arranged. You can see how this applies to windows, doors, shopfronts, roofs and empty buildings on our boarding up services page.

Insured and DBS-checked

We’re fully insured, and we’ll send a copy of the certificate if you ask. That’s often useful for landlords, managing agents and businesses who need it for their records. We’re also DBS-checked. That matters when we’re working at someone’s home, sometimes late at night and sometimes just after a break-in.

Paperwork that helps with your insurer

Once the job is finished, you receive:

  • An itemised invoice
  • Time-stamped photographs from before and after the work
  • A written statement of the work carried out

Your insurer decides what’s covered. We aren’t loss adjusters or legal advisers, but clear records make the conversation easier. Our guide to insurance claims after boarding up explains how to use each document. After a break-in, report it to the police and keep the crime reference number. Contact your insurer too, and photograph the damage if it’s safe to do so.

Who we work for

Most calls come from four groups of people:

  • Householders with a broken window or a forced door, who want the house secure again.
  • Shop owners and businesses with a damaged shopfront, office, restaurant or warehouse, who need it closed up properly.
  • Landlords dealing with damage at a rented property, or securing one between tenancies.
  • Letting and managing agents who need an opening made safe for a client.

We also secure vacant and void properties by boarding the windows and doors of empty buildings.

Where we work

We cover Bracknell, plus Binfield and Warfield. We can also often help in Crowthorne, Ascot, Winkfield and Sandhurst, subject to confirming on the call. Our areas we cover page has the details, and we’ll always check your address when you ring.
