Boarding Up Cost in Bracknell

The cost of boarding up in Bracknell depends on what needs securing and how we reach it. We don’t publish prices because two jobs that sound alike can need very different amounts of time, material and fixing work. Instead, we give you a free, clear quote on the phone before any work starts. You’ll know the agreed scope before we pick up a single board.

A person answers our phone 24 hours a day, so you can get a quote at any hour. Call 01344 951 955 or email us with your postcode, the type and rough size of each opening, and a few photographs if it’s safe to take them.

How a boarding up quote is worked out

Every quotation comes from the same factors. Here’s what each one means and why it matters.

Number and size of openings

This is the starting point. A single small pane in a back door is a short job. A run of large ground-floor windows, or a full shopfront, takes more board, more fixings and more time. Approximate measurements help, but don’t worry if you can only describe the openings. “Two bedroom windows and the glass panel in the front door” gives us plenty to work with.

Height and access

A ground-floor window you can reach from the path is very different from a first-floor window above a conservatory, a roof light or a skylight. Upper floors and roofs may need ladders and more careful setting up, and that affects time and labour.

For example, a broken shop window at street level on Braccan Walk and a broken window in a flat above a shop on Market Street would be quoted on the same factors. The second one may simply involve more work to reach safely.

Please don’t climb up to measure or photograph anything at height. Tell us what you can see from the ground and we’ll ask the right questions.

Materials and board thickness

We usually use exterior-grade plywood, typically 18mm, for windows, doors and shopfronts. Smaller openings can often be covered with OSB. The right choice depends on the size of the opening and how long the boarding is likely to stay in place. We’ll explain what we suggest and why, so the quote reflects a sensible specification rather than the heaviest option by default.

Fixing method

How the board is fixed affects the quote. Where the frame allows, we use non-destructive fixing so the frame isn’t damaged further before permanent repairs. For openings at risk of being tampered with, such as at an empty property or a shop out of hours, security or anti-tamper fixings may be the better choice. Not every job needs them, and we’ll tell you when they’re worth it.

Damaged doors, frames and locks

After a forced entry, the board can’t always go straight on. If a door or frame is split, twisted or hanging loose, it may need securing first so the boarding has something solid to fix to. If the frame is too badly damaged for a standard fixing, we’ll explain the options on the call before agreeing the work. That’s one of the main reasons a door job can differ from a window job of a similar size. Our door boarding service covers this in more detail.

Glass and debris to make safe

Broken glass left in a frame, or shards on a path, a shop floor or a doorstep, has to be dealt with before the opening can be boarded properly. The amount of glass and debris to make safe is part of the quote. Keep yourself, children and pets well clear of it in the meantime.

What to tell us for an accurate quote

The more we know at the start, the closer the quote matches the job. When you call or email, it helps to have:

  • Your postcode, so we can work out arrival time on the call and confirm the address
  • The type of each opening: window, door, shopfront, roof light or skylight
  • Rough sizes, or a description such as “patio door” or “small toilet window”
  • Which floor each opening is on and anything that affects access
  • The condition of the frame or door, especially after a break-in
  • Safe photographs, taken from where you’re standing, without going near broken glass or unsafe areas

If anything is unclear, we’ll ask. If something on site turns out to be different from what we discussed, we’ll talk it through with you before doing anything outside the agreed work.

What the price covers

Once the quote is agreed, you get the openings made safe with the boards and fixings we discussed. The van carries boarding stock and fixings, so most work can be done in one visit.

You also receive paperwork that’s useful if you’re claiming:

  • An itemised invoice
  • Time-stamped before and after photographs
  • A written statement of the work done

Your insurer decides what is covered under your policy. We’re not loss adjusters, so we can’t tell you whether a cost will be paid, but clear records make the conversation easier. Our guide to insurance claims paperwork explains what each document is for.

Boarding is a make-safe that holds the property secure while permanent repairs, such as new glazing or a replacement door, are arranged.

Why we don’t list prices on the page

A price list would either be too vague to be useful or wrong for most jobs. A small window at the back of a house and a large damaged shopfront have little in common apart from the word “boarding”. Quoting on the phone means you get a figure for your openings, your access and your frame condition, not an average that changes once someone arrives.

There’s no obligation when you ask for a quote. If you’re comparing options or need to check with a landlord, managing agent or insurer first, that’s fine.

Out-of-hours quotes

Because someone answers the phone around the clock, you can get a quote at night, at the weekend or on a bank holiday, and we attend at any hour. The quoting process doesn’t change: the same factors apply and the quote is agreed before work starts. If the property is open right now, our 24-hour emergency boarding up page explains what to do first.

We’ve been boarding up properties for over 10 years. We’re fully insured, with the certificate available on request, and DBS-checked.
