Which boarding up service do I need?

Most people know what’s broken but not what the job is called. Start with the opening that’s damaged:

Many jobs involve more than one. After a break-in, for example, a smashed back window and a damaged door frame are often secured on the same visit. Tell us everything that’s damaged and we’ll quote for the whole job.

Window and door boarding in Bracknell

Windows and doors make up most of our domestic work. Bracknell’s housing ranges from New Town estates to older Victorian pockets and newer developments, so frames vary a lot: timber, uPVC, aluminium, and sizes from small toilet windows to wide patio openings.

Window boarding

We cut boards to fit the opening and fix them securely over or into the frame. Exterior-grade plywood, typically 18mm, suits most windows. OSB can work well for smaller openings. Where the frame is sound, we use non-destructive fixing so the frame can be reused when the glass is replaced. Upper-floor windows need ladder access, which we’ll ask about on the call. Door boarding and securing

A forced door is rarely just a boarding job. The frame may be split, the lock may be broken or the door may not close at all. We assess what’s left, secure the door and frame first where needed, and then board so the opening can’t be pushed in again. If the frame is too badly damaged to take fixings, we’ll explain your options before we start, so you know exactly what you’re agreeing to. Read more about door boarding.

Commercial property boarding in Bracknell

Shops, offices, restaurants and warehouses often have large panes, glazed entrances and roller-shutter surrounds that need a different approach from a house window. Whether your premises are on Braccan Walk, Market Street or an industrial estate, the aim is the same: secure the frontage so stock, equipment and records are protected, and keep the boarding tidy enough that you can trade again as soon as practical.

For commercial work we’ll talk through the size of each opening, how the frontage is constructed, and whether security or anti-tamper fixings make sense. Where a glazed door is also your main entrance, we’ll discuss how you need to use the premises in the meantime. Read more about shopfront and commercial boarding.

Roof and skylight boarding

Roof lights and skylights are easy to forget until one breaks and rain starts coming in, or someone realises it’s an easy way into the building. We board damaged skylights and roof openings to keep weather and intruders out.

Height and access matter here, so please don’t climb onto a roof to look. A photograph taken safely from the ground, or from inside the room below if it’s safe to be there, is plenty to start the conversation. Read more about roof and skylight boarding.

Vacant property securing

Landlords, agents and owners often need an empty property secured between tenants, during probate, before a sale or while works are planned. We board the windows and doors of empty houses, flats and commercial units. Anti-tamper fixings are common on this kind of job because nobody is there day to day.

Tell us how many openings there are, which floors they’re on and whether any are already damaged. Read more about securing vacant property.

How every boarding job works

Each service uses its own methods, but the basics stay the same:

  1. You call us. A person answers the phone at any hour. We attend at nights, weekends and bank holidays. We’ll ask for your postcode, what’s damaged, roughly how big the openings are and how easy they are to reach. Safe photos help.
  2. You get a quote on the call. It’s free and clear, and it’s agreed before any work starts. We’ll also work out an arrival time from your postcode. What affects the price is explained on our pricing page.
  3. We make it safe. The van carries boarding stock and fixings. We clear away loose glass and debris where that’s part of making the opening safe, then secure and board it.
  4. You get the paperwork. You’ll receive an itemised invoice, time-stamped before and after photographs and a written statement of the work done. These are useful for your insurer. Your insurer decides what’s covered. Our insurance claims guide explains how the documents are typically used.

Boarding is a make-safe. It secures the property properly now, so you can arrange permanent repairs such as new glazing or a replacement door in your own time.

We’ve been doing this for over 10 years. We’re fully insured, with a certificate available on request, and DBS-checked.

If something has just happened

If you need a property secured tonight, go to our 24-hour emergency boarding up page, which covers what to do first. If you’re dealing with a particular event, such as a break-in, a fire or storm damage, the situations guide explains the next steps for each one. Keep people away from broken glass and anything that looks unstable until the opening has been made safe.
